Green Lakes State Park, Fayetteville, NY
In 2019, Rhonda and the Payne Family chaired the first ever Energy Walk & 5K in New York State. That year, she reached out to MitoAction to find out what there was to do locally during mitochondrial disease awareness week. When she learned there were no events in the area, she very quickly became an activist, event planner, and chairperson.
The Payne Family has a very special reason for wanting to get involved in awareness week. Their 10-year old daughter, Caroline is affected by mitochondrial disease and they would like to invite you to join them to help support families like theirs, who everyday face the challenges of this rare disease.
Whether you walk as an individual, create a team or volunteer, you're making a difference in the lives of patients and families, like the Payne's!
In its inaugural year, the MitoAction Energy Walk & 5K - Syracuse raised close to $10,000! During the pandemic, in 2020, the event became a more socially distanced, hybrid event and still raised over $7,000. These funds help MitoAction change the future of health for every mito patient, here and around the world!
