A multisystem disorder characterized by progressive degeneration of the muscles of the gastrointestinal tract. Causing gastrointestinal dysmotility, weakening of extraocular muscles causing drooping of the eyelids and restricted eye movements. The condition also causes degeneration of the peripheral nerves causing altered sensations and weakness of the arms and legs along with general wasting.
