Also called Functional Neurological Disorder, in which neurological symptoms occur, such as paralysis, numbness, blindness, deafness or seizures, without obvious underlying neurologic pathology. The cause is then typically taken to be psychological. Patients who actually turn out to have chronic organic diseases, such as mitochondrial disease, are regularly mis-diagnosed as having only conversion disorder or other psychological problems.
