A person who has one copy of a recessive pathogenic variant and one copy of the corresponding normal variant. The potentially harmful variant can be passed on to offspring, but the “carrier” is not affected by it this is the definition of “recessive”. An offspring, however, will show disease if it inherits two copies of the pathogenic variant, one from each parent.
