A potentially life-threatening condition of the autonomic nervous system following spinal cord injury to the chest or neck. A common presentation is sudden increase in blood pressure accompanied by symptoms including cardiac arrhythmia, blurred vision, and intense headache. Mitochondrial dysfunction is a well known follow-on after spinal cord injury; conversely, enhancement of mitochondrial health shows promise as a treatment.
