Impaired coordination of voluntary muscle movements. Manifestations can include, among others, slurred speech, poor balance, unsteady walking, falling, and involuntary eye movements (nystagmus). Usually results from dysfunction of the cerebellum, the brain region responsible for coordinating movements, due to injury or to genetic disease including many forms of mitochondrial disease.
