Legal Advocacy Across the Lifespan
In 2007, adults with mitochondrial disease came to MitoAction to form an "Adult Advocacy Coaltion". This dedicated group brainstormed about the needs of the adult Mito patient community, and ultimately prioritized that an understanding of the legal needs, such as estate planning, durable power of attorney, insurance and supplemental benefits, and living wills is a current need.
We began working with disability attorney and advocate Valerie Smith and are proud to soon offer a comprehensive list of FAQs for adults and children that focus on legal needs throughout the lifespan.
This work is in progress - please check again in Summer 2008 for the final content.
MitoAction would like to provide disability attorney counseling for patients and families as a part of our Mito 411 resource program. Your gift of $100 will provide one half-hour counseling session for a family who needs legal advice. Please share your gifts so that we can continue to help others!
